Direct Support Professional (DPS)

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for providing compassionate, hands-on support and care to individuals with disabilities, helping them achieve independence and improve their quality of life. This role involves assisting clients with daily living activities, personal care, and community engagement while maintaining a safe and supportive environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist individuals with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication management, and household tasks.
  • Provide companionship and encourage engagement in recreational and social activities to foster personal growth and independence.
  • Support clients in developing life skills, including communication, decision-making, and self-care.
  • Follow individualized care plans and document client progress, behaviors, and any notable incidents accurately and promptly.
  • Ensure client safety by following established protocols and maintaining a clean, organized environment.
  • Transport clients to appointments, community outings, and activities, as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with family members, supervisors, and healthcare professionals to coordinate care and address client needs.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in caregiving, first aid, or CPR are a plus.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a caregiving role is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with clients.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support individuals with diverse needs.
  • Ability to handle physical tasks associated with caregiving, such as lifting and transferring clients, if needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required.
